Ramblings From the County Line Kitchen

Welcome to our little corner of the internet where you can see what we are up to this week! Our product line is always changing. It all depends on what we got in the kitchen this week. Be patient with us, because the farm and family come first. Hay, silage, football, basketball & track seasons will most definitely slow us down a bit. But we're always around if you have any questions or special requests. Thank you for your support and we can't wait to show you what we come up with next!

Pickled WHAT?

School is out for the summer, so naturally I picked up some watermelon. I was just barely starting to form this idea in my head about what I wanted to do for this farm stand. And of course I start to think about seeing pickled watermelon rind and I had to give it a go. With a little help from the kids, chat gpt, some old recipes, and a little determination...it came together perfectly. After the first batch...I was told not to change the recipe...so here we are on watermelon #8 of the summer and still going strong. That first watermelon launched the whole "use every part" theme that has begun to emerge. Groceries are expensive enough as it is. If we can squeeze 3-4 recipes out of 1 product...then that's what were gonna do. (Just wait until I tell you about our sour (and sweet) watermelon rind candy! lol) Thank goodness we decided to plant way more watermelon then we thought we needed =) If you haven't tried it...we can fix that!

Back to the beginning

"You wanna go asparagus hunting?" Sure. Why not? We jumped in the side-by-side and took off to all the usual spots to pick some asparagus. Apparently the stuff I made last year wasn't hot enough, so my sole mission this year was to make sure it was. Here I was, canning up some asparagus, and the "farm stand" idea was born. Sure, we had said in passing that with the size of the garden this year, we should sell some since we'll never be able to eat it all. But as I was standing in the kitchen and putting these asparagus jars together, I began this journey. A few questions to "Chad" (my nickname for Chat GPT that the kids HATE haha) turned into falling down a few rabbit holes and asking questions like "What do I need to do to be able to sell canned food items?" and "Where can I get the certifications I need?" and here we are now. Pickled asparagus turned into watermelon rind pickles which turned into jams and jellies and watermelon rind candies and so much more. Now we're into homemade dog treats and dehydrated fruits and snacks and cereal mixes and who knows what the future holds...but it all started with those few bags of asparagus.

Our Story & Our Passion

Here at the County Line Kitchen, we're not just making food; we're crafting experiences. From sour watermelon rind candy to fiery pickled asparagus, we love to experiment and create unique items you won't find anywhere else. We believe in getting creative with every ingredient and are all about finding ways to utilize every part of the fruit or veggie that crosses our cutting board. We hope you are as excited to try our products as we are to share them with you.

We know that these days it can be downright hard to provide for your family. Having kids home for the summer can be stressful and if your kids are anything like mine, they spend half the time fighting over...well... ANYTHING...lol When it comes to feeding them, I'm fairly certain they are hollow and somehow manage to eat twice their body weight and are still hangry. So trying to get groceries to stretch a little further then usual is a necessity. This is where the "use everything" idea began. We are still learning and testing out new recipes so that we can give you some new and tasty foods that are budget friendly and kid approved. Because what good is it if the kids wont eat it, right?!?

From our chaotic kitchen to yours...we strive to give you products that taste great but don't feel like you have to sell a kidney to afford them. Thanks for going on this journey with us...I cant wait to see what the future holds for all of us.
